Tennis Bubble Update
December 17, 2011
MAC tennis community,
It is with great frustration I report to you that our new bubble structure over courts #5 & 6 has been delayed by the manufacturer and now will not be up and operational until the end of the month. It is now scheduled to arrive in the US on 12/23, and will take several days to get to Richmond and be set up for use.
We have done everything we can to get it here as soon as possible, including having it air-shipped from the UK to save a week of transit. The delivery date committed to by the manufacturer would have enabled us to get the new structure up by the first week in December, only a week later than the bubble would normally go up. As a result, we decided to not put up the old bubble. No excuses, it didn’t work out as we planned, and for that we are frustrated and apologize that indoor court availability in December has been limited.
We are committed to MAC being a first class tennis facility, and this investment in a new bubble structure was intended to be the first of several new investments in our tennis infrastructure. Ideally, next fall we would like to have 6 indoor courts, if tennis membership expands. MAC is unique in the market in terms of what we offer and the value that we provide for such offerings. In the long run, we hope the membership will appreciate the new bubble.
We are well aware that you all want to play more indoor tennis! We have been somewhat fortunate that the weather has been more moderate than normal so outdoor play is still possible. However, there is no question that you need more indoor availability. Thus, effective immediately, we are opening up both courts (#1 and #2) to member play full time until the new bubble is up. Previously booked lessons or clinics will remain, but no new lessons or clinics will be scheduled this month. This means our pros, Al, Lynn, and Sam will not be able to teach lessons or do clinics for the next couple weeks unless there are some unused time slots. While we recognize this will negatively impact members who take lessons or clinics, and obviously our pros who give them, overall it will provide more court availability to more people and thus make the most people happy, or at least happier. We are excited for the new structure, as it will be a nice improvement. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
