Melissa began teaching group exercise classes in 1989 while she was a student at UVA. A native of RVA and a graduate of Midlothian High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her masters degree in teaching from UVA in 1992 and worked as a middle school math teacher, while teaching group classes in the evening. She is an AFAA certified group exercise instructor, and she also holds specialty certifications such as BodyPump™, CXWORX™, Les Mills Tone™, Mad Dogg Spinning®, GRIT™, BodyFlow™, RYT 200, RPM™, and Sprint™. She has been married to her husband, Patrick, for many years, and they have three children. Her primary goal is to provide members an effective, challenging and well-planned workout, while also ensuring participants may exercise safely for the long term. If she is not busy teaching classes or working in the gym, you will likely find her on the tennis court!
